Digital Color Management:Principles and Strategies for the Standardized Print Production

Springer; 1 edition (November 2008)
PDF | 212 pages | English | 24mb(rar)

Digital Color Management:Principles and Strategies for the Standardized Print Production/by Jan-Peter Homann (Author), Andrew Jack Newman (Translator)

Description
The book describes color management for the print production with a focus on implementing standards for separation, soft proof, contract proof, data delivery and printing.
The basics and strategies are targeted at setting up vendor-independent color management workflows which can easily be realized with leading applications from e.g. Adobe, AGFA, GMG, Heidelberg, Kodak and X-Rite.

The author explains with a unique graphical concept how different standards such as ISO 12647, SWOP, GRACoL, G7, ICC profile format and PDF/X fit together.

He describes the main points for setting up color management and quality control from the print buyer over photography, agency and pre-press to the printer. The book has a strong focus on communication between print buyer, photographer, agency, pre-press and printers. Based on the best practice in communication it explains the important steps for quality control for digital data, contract proofs and prints.

Design Elements: A Graphic Style Manual

This book is simply the most compact and lucid handbook available outlining the basic principles of layout, typography, color usage, and space.

Being a creative designer is often about coming up with unique design solutions. Unfortunately, when the basic rules of design are ignored in an effort to be distinctive, design becomes useless. In language, a departure from the rules is only appreciated as great literature if recognition of the rules underlies the text. Graphic design is a "visual language," and brilliance is recognized in designers whose work seems to break all the rules, yet communicates its messages clearly.

This book is a fun and accessible handbook that presents the fundamentals of design in lists, tips, brief text, and examples. Chapters include Graphic Design: What It Is; What Are They and What Do They Do?; 20 Basic Rules of Good Design; Form and Space-The Basics; Color Fundamentals; Choosing and Using Type; The World of Imagery; Putting it All Together?Essential Layout Concepts; The Right Design Choices: 20 Reminders for Working Designers; and Breaking the Rules: When and Why to Challenge all the Rules of this Book.

Action! Cartooning

Written and illustrated by a former Marvel Comics’ artist with brilliant hand-done images throughout, this graphic handbook of cartooning is without equal. It's simply larger, better illustrated, and more in depth than any similar title on the market. In elaborate detail, it focuses on superheroes and their atmospheric world filled with speed and movement. Every aspect of creating cartoons is taught: the supplies, developing mood, and the techniques that endow characters with personality. See how to draw a variety of faces (female, heroic, cute, gaunt), and give the appearance of age. From the skeleton to the torso, to the arms, hands, and legs, follow every stroke that goes into producing bodies of all shapes and sizes. Finally, there's instruction on sending those figures into running, jumping, punching, kicking action in a fully realized scene. With advice so thorough, any amateur can become a pro.

Digital Color and Type by Rob Carter

Very useful for color design choices as to what color schemes work, and what dosn't work on a web page. You cant help but learn something from this book. You will be susprised as to what color combinations work well together.
Another thing is his obvious preference for 'teach by example'. Instead of trying to force the reader to wade through miles of bla, bla text he drops that approach entirely. Instead, the reader is granted endless exposure to examples and graphics.
Even though the book is about the visual side of life he's able to bring the information alive in constantly conjuring up visuals as one reads through the book.

The Graphic Work of M.C. Escher

M.C. Escher, make many contributions to the art and math-related sciences. This awesome book, a must-have relic, shows, the graphic work of this artist, showing us, the complexity and mistery of many of his works, from his popular "Metamorphosis" series to it's "impossible paintings", like "Waterfalls" or "Concave and Convex". The quallity of the illsutrations and content is excellent. This is, a must-have book, for any artist, graphic designer, scientist, or people, interested on contemporary, and impressive art.
