Acoustics and Psychoacoustics
Acoustics and Psychoacoustics, Third Edition
Publisher: Focal Press | ISBN: 0240519957 | edition 2006 | PDF | 416 pages | 3,0 mb
Acoustics and Psychoacoustics is ideal for students of music technology, sound recording, traditional music and acoustics, as well as engineers studying audio, multimedia and communications systems. Gain a practical understanding of how real musical sounds behave and are perceived in real spaces with this accessible and interesting read.
This third edition offers a CD of audio examples, crucial for a clear understanding of the concepts discussed.
Seems to be an easier acoustics text than the classic Rossing and similar approaches. The focus is sufficiently practical to bring in generalist or the technician who wants to understand a bit more, but also sufficiently deep to satisfy anyone other than a physicist. But they'd just add another book on, and be happy as well.

Sound Intensity
Sound Intensity
Taylor & Francis | 1995-10-01 | ISBN: 0419198105 | 320 pages | PDF | 6 MB
The advent of instruments capable of measuring sound intensity, which represents the flow of energy in sound fields, has revolutionised audio-frequency acoustical metrology. Since publication of the first edition, two International Standards for the use of sound intensity for sound source power determination, and one International Standard for sound intensity instrumentation, have also been published. A number of International Standards have also been developed.

Home Recording Studio Construction: Build it Like the Pros
Home Recording Studio Construction: Build it Like the Pros By Rodney Gervais
Publisher: Course Technology Inc 2006 | 344 Pages | ISBN: 1598630342 | PDF | 11 MB
With the advances in digital technology, musicians can now produce their own music. But the gear is only part of the equation when it comes to recording and mixing. The next part is finding a soundproof room that you can produce it in. Unfortunately, any old room in your house will not suffice for a quality recording. Without a decent room, you?ll never be able to record a studio-quality recording you?ll be proud of and excited to have other people hear. So how do you go about creating a space in your home that has similar acoustics to that of a world-class studio? How do you soundproof this room to keep your sound in and outside noise out? How do you construct or modify the room so that its size and shape best complement its function? Home Recording Studio: Build It Like the Pros teaches you how to do all these things, from building a professional home studio to saving thousands of dollars in the process. This book shows you how to design and understand your room?how to treat it, wire it, and condition it while using widely available materials. Each step features visual aids to illustrate underlying concepts, as well as professional tips and examples from actual studios. Everything is covered, from room design to electrical considerations, room treatments to codes, permits, special needs, and more. With over 30 years of construction experience, Rod Gervais gives you a comprehensive and cost-effective plan for building that home studio that will have you building and recording in no time. A complete glossary of terms is also included, and a collection of handy tools to aid you in your design is available on the author?s companion Web site. So what are you waiting for?

Sound Design and Science Fiction
William Whittington, "Sound Design and Science Fiction"
University of Texas Press | 2007 | ISBN: 0292714319, 0292714300 | 288 pages | PDF | 2,6 MB
Sound is half the picture, and since the 1960s, film sound not only has rivaled the innovative imagery of contemporary Hollywood cinema, but in some ways has surpassed it in status and privilege because of the emergence of sound design.
This in-depth study by William Whittington considers the evolution of sound design not only through cultural and technological developments during the last four decades, but also through the attitudes and expectations of filmgoers. Fans of recent blockbuster films, in particular science fiction films, have come to expect a more advanced and refined degree of film sound use, which has changed the way they experience and understand spectacle and storytelling in contemporary cinema.
The book covers recent science fiction cinema in rich and compelling detail, providing a new sounding of familiar films, while offering insights into the constructed nature of cinematic sound design. This is accomplished by examining the formal elements and historical context of sound production in movies to better appreciate how a film sound track is conceived and presented. Whittington focuses on seminal science fiction films that have made specific advances in film sound, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, THX 1138, Star Wars, Alien, Blade Runner (original version and director's cut), Terminator 2: Judgment Day and The Matrix trilogy and games--milestones of the entertainment industry's technological and aesthetic advancements with sound.
Setting itself apart from other works, the book illustrates through accessible detail and compelling examples how swiftly such advancements in film sound aesthetics and technology have influenced recent science fiction cinema, and examines how these changes correlate to the history, theory, and practice of contemporary Hollywood filmmaking.

Recording Spaces
Recording Spaces
Publisher: Focal Press | ISBN: 0240515072 | edition 1998 | PDF | 185 pages | 4,9 mb
Discusses the acoustics of rooms intended for musical performance of many styles, in terms of isolation, internal acoustics, possible techniques of use, and the way that these spaces will interact with the musicians, their instruments, and the microphones. Also included are the concepts of sound isolation, the principal processes at work, and descriptions of actual rooms and techniques.
The book describes how the isolation requirements have their effect on the internal acoustics of the rooms, and how the room treatments must be conceived with such interactions taken into consideration.
Starting from the initial concepts, to the measurements of the finished items, Recording Spaces discusses many different types of room, from vocal `booths' to orchestral rooms. There are many stories of how actual `classical' musical performances, from rock to orchestral, have been inspired, or strongly influenced, by the acoustics of their recording spaces.
The book completes a trilogy of titles, with Studio Monitoring Design and Project Studios complementing each other and covering the subjects of acoustics, monitoring and equipment interfacing which will have relevance from the most meagre studio to the world's finest.
